Description:
This project focused on the shoulder widening of a 1km pavement on both sides to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and accommodate increased vehicle volumes. The project included excavating material from the shoulders, widening the existing roadway, and compaction of layers under live traffic. Earthworks, drainage improvements, and pavement construction were integral parts of the project.

Scope:

• 1km shoulder widening on both sides of the road.

• Excavation of 400 to 450mm of material from the shoulders.

• Widening the roadway with principle-supplied material and seal.

• Modified compaction of pavement layers under live traffic.

• Earthworks, drainage improvements, and pavement construction.

Challenges:

• Remote location affecting gravel procurement.

• Traffic staging/overnight management with single-lane reversible flow.

• Crew management under hot weather conditions to ensure safety.
